Initial stage of a solar panel installationMr & Mrs G installed a PV system of 16 panels on their south facing roof in Nottingham in Feb 2011. They started receiving the government Feed In Tariff at a rate of 41.3p/kWh for the generation and 3p/kWh for the export tariff, deemed 50% of the amount of electricity generated. The payback calculation for this system gives an approximate generation annual income for the first year of £1,029 from the system and an approximate £144 savings from energy used. This gives a total income and savings for the first year of £1,173. They will receive guaranteed payments from the government FIT scheme for 25 years, plus they will be adjusted for inflation using the Retail Price Index. They can expect combined income and savings over the next 25 years to be around £36,000.

Completion stages of solar panels

The system took 1 full day to install and was supplied with a performance warranty of 25 years and an installation warranty of 5 years. The system has been installed by a MCS registered company so therefore they qualify for the Government FIT, which will be paid to them directly from their energy provider.
